Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Kelechi Iheanacho has finally moved to Leicester City. He underwent his medical at Leicester today as he completes a £25 million transfer from Manchester City.
Iheanacho’s move to King Power Stadium has been a bit protracted due to rows over image rights and management responsibilities with his former agents. The deal is expected to be fully completed within the next 48 hours.
In a transfer window of inflated prices, the £25 million fee Leicester City have paid for the services of the Nigerian could easily go under the radar. It is, after all, just a third of the total Manchester United have forked out for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
However, there is ample evidence that suggests Iheanacho signing could be a shrewd piece of business by the Foxes.
After steering the 2015/16 Premier League winners back on track in the second half of last season, City’s manager, Craig Shakespeare has targeted qualification for European football next year and Iheanacho could be the man to provide some of the key goals they’ll need to get there.
Leicester City beat several other Premier League sides to the signature of the electric Nigerian star. Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Monaco were all in the ring for the striker but the City outfoxed them all.
The move is arguably a positive one for Iheanacho as the arrival of Gabriel Jesus has moved him further down the pecking order with the Citizens.
While his quality is undoubted, he needed regular play time to continue his development into one of the best young players in the game. Leicester City will certainly afford him the chance to make the step in his career.
His contributions in Manchester City is aptly summed up in the review of this transfer by Skysports.
