Hazard missed the start of the season after undergoing surgery on his ankle over the summer but has quickly found his feet upon returning to the side. The 26-year-old delivered a Man of the Match display in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Newcastle United, scoring two goals including a ‘Panenka’ penalty.
But Conte believes there is more to come from his player and has urged Hazard to use the Ballon d’Or and Champions League as motivation to improve. ‘I don’t think that Eden is at the peak of his career yet. I think he has a lot of improvement,’ Conte said.
‘He is a young player and it’s important for him to work, work, work in every training session to improve himself and then to have this kind of performance.
‘You are at the top when you win the Ballon d’Or the first time, when you win the Champions League, when you win the Word Cup.
‘At that moment you are at the top of the world, so you are a great player.
‘The World Cup is a great tournament, the best tournament in the world. In this tournament you can show your abilities and your skills and you can show that you are a top player. I think this is a great chance where every great player has to show his ability.’
While Conte warned Hazard about his penalty technique, the player himself says instinct took over when he put the ball on the spot. ‘When I take the ball in my hands, it’s instinct,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘I just want to do this. I want the goalkeeper to move because, if he doesn’t, I’m in trouble.’
